Other Important Info...
If you haven't filled out the Survey Monkey
GMLP survey, please :

In February, GMLP, Beverly Hacker of KDHX, the
survey's creator, said this: "Its really easy to look at,
either detail or summary format. Folks can get specific detail
about individual members and their interests and services as
well as look at what the overall makeup of the group is.
"Thanks, again, to Beverly for her work on this living
document!
NEA opportunity for professional funding to NMEC
Deadline is Oct. 15th!
Dear GMLPs,
I wish to alert you to an
opportunity to attend the Alliance For A Media
Literate America's (AMLA's) National Media
Education Conference (NMEC) and Research Summit, here in
St. Louis, June 23-27!
The National
Education Association Foundation Learning and
Leadership Grants provide $2,000
for individuals and $5,000 for groups of public
school teachers, public education support professionals,
and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of
higher education to fund participation in high-quality
professional development experiences.
The deadline for
applications is October 15, 2006. http://www.neafoundation.org/programs/Learning&Leadership
As some of you know, several
GMLPs belong to the Alliance for a Media Literate
America (AMLA), a membership organization committed
to promoting media literacy education that is focused on
critical inquiry, learning, and skill-building.
This national grassroots membership organization is a
key force in bringing media literacy education to all 60
million students in the United States, their parents,
their teachers, and others who care about youth.
www.AMLAinfo.org
The AMLA has asked
Gateway Media Literacy Partners (GMLP) to be the
local host of NMEC. As such, GMLP has
both a lot to give as well as gain from this
relationship.
I hope you all will seriously
consider attending the conference and
PLAN, NOW, to attend,
including trying to take advantage of professional
development opportunities--such as the NEA grants--so
much needed to allow for current and future teachers to
practice on-going media literacy education in our
classrooms and in after-school programs.
We'll have more news on the
conference at our first GMLP meeting of
the school year, 9:30-11:30, Sept. 27, Cooperating
School Districts, Craig Rd.
Look forward to seeing you
there!
Best,
Jessica Z. Brown
