Edie Barnard is a Media Education Specialist and Consultant for the Youth Empowerment in Action program at the Center for Character and Citizenship, in the College of Education at University of Missouri – St. Louis. With the support of the Missouri Foundation for Health, these programs are operating in 14 Missouri Public/Charter Schools.
Edie has spent her career working in various aspects of media. She began as a producer for cable television in the early 1980’s, and then moved to corporate communications as an executive for Famous-Barr Department Stores. Edie pursued her graduate degree at Southern Illinois University, and began teaching video production at Lindenwood University in 1989. She was promoted to Associate Professor of Communications in 1996, and became the coordinator for upper level studies. Her research focused on Media Law, Ethics, and Media Education. Edie left her position at Lindenwood in February 2006 to work on the Youth Empowerment in Action! Program full-time, but she continues to teach Media Law for the Graduate School of Communications at Webster University.
Edie has continued to work as an independent contractor. She has written and produced dozens of videos for both public and private sector clients. Her list of clients includes: Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis University School of Medicine, Youth In Need, Head Start, and many others.
Edie has designed and facilitated teacher workshops in media literacy training for Cable In the Classroom, Gateway Media Literacy Partners, and YEA!. She also designed and is currently implementing two Media Literacy projects in St. Charles, Missouri for elementary and middle school students.
Edie is an active community member and is currently an Alderman, and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Rock Hill, Missouri. |
